Duo's Secret

"I'm FINE, Wufei." Duo protested as he collapsed into a chair at the hospital.

"You are *NOT*." Wufei insisted. "People who are fine don't pass out into their 
cereal bowls at breakfast."

"I was up all night." Duo countered.

"Snoring?!" Wufei practically accused. "We all heard you."

"That was a recording. I snuck out and went partying all over the colonies."

"Sure you did." Wufei knew better.

Duo sighed. "Look, I'm fine."

"We'll let the doctor decide."

"I don't want to see..."

"Duo Maxwell?" A doctor asked, it wasn't the one Wufei had contacted. "You're 
here early, aren't you?"

"Um..."

"He's your patient?" Wufei asked, wondering where he'd seen the woman.

"Yes." the doctor replied. "He's too young and fragile for the normal course of 
treatment, so he's been seeing me."

"Normal course of treatment?" Wufei blinked at Duo. "What's she talking about, 
Maxwell?" he asked, sternly.

"It's nothing." Duo told him. "Don't worry about it."

"Does it have any relationship to you passing out thist morning?"

"None."

"He passed out?" The doctor seemed concerned.

"Yes." Wufei nodded. "He was..."

There was a noise and they turned to see Duo lying on the floor, unconscious.

"I'll be right back. I'm just going to get a doctor."

"But you're a doctor, aren't you?" Wufei was confused.

"I'm only licensed to practice herbal medicine and other similar treatments, 
like acupuncture." she explained as she hurried off, returning moments later 
with some other doctors who brought a stretcher and rushed Duo into the ICU, 
leaving a stunned Wufei standing there alone in the crowded waiting room.


"How is he?" Wufei asked, when the doctor who'd first spoken to Duo came out 
some time later.

"We're sending him home." the doctor told him. "If you have any plans for this 
evening, strongly suggest you cancel them. You need to be with him tonight."


Once they arrived at the safehouse, Wufei insisted that Duo go to bed.

"I know I saw her before." Wufei told himself out loud. "But where?"

"Dr. Isha you mean?" Duo asked, weakly, as he closed his eyes and became 
ominously still.

"Yeah. Dr. Isha. That name is familiar to. Where have I...?"

Wufei suddenly remembered and when he did, his world was ripped out from under 
him and shattered into a million pieces.he'd seen newspaper clips of her at 
various mecial lectures, giving speaches ahout varioud diseases. She worked with 
cancer patients at various hospitals who had various reasons the were not 
qualified for chemotheraphy.

"Duo," Wufei could barely see through his tears as he kissed him one last time, 
"why didn't you tell us?"
