Warning Dream -----part 1----- "Duo! NO!" Heero raced toward Duo, grasping out for him, his fingers clasping only air as Duo dove, gracefully, from the top of the thirty-story building. "DUO!!!" Heero Yuy sat up in bed and wiped the sweat from his brow. Duo was sitting on the edge of the bed, looking down at him with concern in his beautiful eyes. "It's okay, Heero." he said. "You were having a nightmare." "Duo, are you okay?" Heero asked. He wondered if the dream had been a warning to him, that Duo might be unhappy. Duo nodded, "I'm fine." he replied, quietly. "I'm sorry if I worried you. Get some sleep, Heero." Heero sighed. He had noticed that Duo had been a lot less manic. It coincided with his recent visit with the Doctors and Heero wondered if they'd given him something to calm him down. And Duo hadn't been flirting with him or calling him 'Hee-chan' either. That troubled Heero, but he wasn't sure how to approach the subject. "Duo, what's wrong?" "I said I'm fine." Duo protested. "But you're not acting it." Heero replied. "Did those doctors give you something to calm you down or...?" Duo flinched when Heero mentioned the doctors. "Duo?" Heero had noticed the involuntary reaction and it puzzled and worried him. "Duo, talk to me. What happened?" "It's nothing." Duo shook his head, slowly. Something about Duo's reply bothered him. It didn't coincide with the way the usually manic pilot had been so quiet lately, or the way he evaded questions about what the Doctors were up to. Nor did it fit the way Duo had been bathing himself since his return, scrubbing himself until he bled, as if he couldn't feel clean no matter how much he washed. "Duo," Heero asked, gently, "what did they do to you?" Duo looked at the floor, his eyes cast downward in shame. "They took turns with me." he whispered. Heero blinked. "What?" he asked. Surely he hadn't just heard Duo say... "They took turns with me." Duo repeated. Heero felt the bile rise in his throat. "Which ones?" he asked, anger welling up in in him. "All of them." Duo replied. Heero pulled Duo close and kissed his brow. "You're safe now, Duo-chan." he whispered. -----part 2----- Duo finished throwing up and rinsed his mouth with some mouthwash. "God, what's wrong with me?" he wondered. He straightened up and felt a wave of dizziness wash over him. He grasped the sink as he rode it out, then headed back to his room. "Duo?" Heero asked as he spotted Duo. "What's wrong?" "I don't know. " Duo admitted. "I guess I'm coming down with a cold or something." "Well, get some rest and maybe you'll feel better." Heero offered, escorting Duo back to bed. "I'll take your watch until you feel better." "Thanks." Duo smiled. "No problem. You'll be fine in a day or two." But Duo wasn't fine in a day or two... or even a month. By then Duo wasn't throwing up anymore, but he was still getting dizzy and lightheaded. "You might feel better if you see that psychiatrist I told you about." Heero pointed out. "He deals with male/male rape victims and..." "I don't need a rape counselor. Duo shoow his head. "It's been almost five months since I was ...Since... oh God." he whispered in realization. " "Duo? What's wrong?" Heero asked. "Heero," Duo replied. "I'm pregnant." -----part 3----- Heero was livid. "You're *WHAT*?!" he exploded. "I'm pregnant, Heero." Duo whispered. "One of the doctors is the father and..." "Those bastards!" Heero snarled. "Duo, are you sure?" Duo nodded. "I was unconscious for a lot of the time they had me there. I'm sure that's when they made the changes inside me. Then, they... " //They took turns.// Heero remembered as he took Duo in his arms and held him, protectively. Trowa and Quatre walked in, arm-in-arm. "Is Duo okay?" Quatre asked. "I don't know." Heero shook his head. "He needs a doctor, though. And not one of the bastards that controls us. They're the ones that did this to him." "Did what?" Quatre asked. "What are you talking about?" Heero gazed down at Duo who nodded, slightly. "Duo's pregnant." -----part 4----- The other pilots became more and more protective of Duo as his due date neared. Heero kept searching for the doctors, intending to give them one hell of a working over for what they had done to the braided baka. Quatre moved one of his family's doctors into the safe house to help out with the medical side of things, while Trowa, who had himself been assaulted years ago, helped Duo through the painful memories that still lingered. "Where are you going?" Heero asked, as Duo put on his jacket. "Just for a short walk." Duo replied. "I won't be too long, but I have to get a little exercise. I've been cooped up in here ever since you guys found out about my condition." "I'm going with you." Heero told him. "Please. I need to be alone to think for a bit. I promise I'll stay nearby." Heero sighed. "I don't like leaving you alone, Duo. Not this far along." "I'll take my communicator." Duo promised. "If I need you, I'll summon you. Promise." Heero considered, then nodded. "Okay. But stay close so we can get to you if we have to." "We will." Duo promised, placing a hand on his swollen abdomen. Heero handed Duo his cloak. "It'll look less conspicuous." he pointed out. Duo nodded and placed the cloak around himself. It draped his body loosely, effectively hiding his condition. "Thanks." Duo gave Heero a peck on the cheek as he headed out. "Subject spotted." a man in a black van said into a communicator. "Retrieval procedure commenced." he stopped the van and got out, approaching Duo from behind. Duo paused and the man went by him, walking over to a nearby soda machine and purchasing a soft drink. He shook his head, frowning slightly. "I'm getting paranoid." he told himself. "Must be those maternal instincts women talk about. I suppose I..." he never got to finish, feeling a flash of pain and slipping to the ground as the soda can made contact with the back of his head. He woke some time later in what looked like a hospital room. Dr. J and Dr. G were in the room with him. He was lying on his side with the two doctors holding him firmly in place. "The others will come looking for him." Dr. G pointed out. "We must do this now. He is far enough along that the infant will survive if it born now." Dr. J nodded. "Induce labor." he agreed. Duo struggled, but to no avail, as Dr. G injected the drug into his body. "He should've been back by now." Heero grumbled, throwing on his coat. "I'm going to look for him." "I'm going with you." Quatre told him. "Trowa, you and Wufei stay here. Contact us if Duo comes back." "Right." Trowa nodded. "Good luck." Wufei added. Quatre and Heero left the safe house. They looked around, then spotted the soda can, which had a little blood on it as well as a couple chestnut-colored hairs. "Damn!" Heero swore. "Looks like someone's kidnapped him." "It must've been the doctors." Quatre pointed out. "Their little experiment is coming to a close and they'd want their subject in the lab." Heero nodded. "We'll need our Gundams to break him out of there." "Push, Duo." Dr. G ordered as he and Dr. J continue to hold Duo firmly in place. "I can't..." Duo protested. He was in full labor now, glistening with sweat, the pain in his body beyond unbearable. "Oh, God... please... not like this..." "Your body was altered so that you could deliver naturally." Dr.G pointed out. "That was the whole point of this experiment. Now finish it." "NO!" Duo screamed. Quatre and Heero approached the lab, intending to take Duo back, by force if necessary. After blasting their way into the compound, they left the shelter of their Gundams and made their way into the underground labs. They ran into the hospital section and began checking rooms. Heero opened the door of the fifth room on the left and looked inside. Duo was lying there, on the bed, the sheets were soaked with blood. Heero realized what had happened and rushed over to Duo. "Duo. Can you hear me? Please! Answer me." "Heero..." Duo fought to speak, mustering up what little strength he had left. "They took him... they took my little Shinigami..." Heero shook his head at Duo's choice of names. "Hang in there, Duo." he said. "We'll get you help." "I'm too badly hurt." Duo whispered. "And I've lost too much blood. Please, take care of my son for me. Promise?" Heero nodded, emitting a soft sob as Duo closed his eyes for the last time and covering Duo up, respectfully. Then, he stood up and went looking for Shinigami Maxwell. "There's no way I'm leaving Duo's baby in the hands of a group of sadistic bastards like that." he told himself. He would retrieve the baby and get him to safety, then, he would come back for Duo's body and see to it that the braided pilot had a proper burial. -----part 5----- "Heero," Quatre asked as they met up in the corridor, "Did you find Duo?" "Duo's dead." Heero replied, bitterly. Quatre shook his head, in anguished denial. "No..." he whispered. "What happened?" "He died in childbirth." Heero explained. "Hurry, we have to find the baby." Quatre followed until they reached an intersection. They nodded to each, then each raced down the corridor they were closest to, Heero taking the left, Quatre taking the right. It was Quatre who found the baby boy. "Found him." he reported to Heero. "Third room on the right. Heero... he's beautiful... looks almost exactly like Duo." "Thank God." Heero breathed a sigh of relief. "Almost you say?" Quatre was transfixed by the baby's eyes, although the baby looked exactly like Duo in every other way, his eyes... "Heero..." he whispered as Heero arrived at the room "I'm a father." The baby boy, who looked like Duo, except that he had Quatre's eyes, looked up at the two pilots and began to cry. Quatre picked the baby up and hugged him. "It's okay... um..." he looked up at Heero. "What do I call him?" "Duo named him Shinigami." Heero replied. "Figures." Quatre sighed. "It's okay, Shinigami. Daddy's here. We're gonna take you home." Carefully shielding the baby, they made their escape from the compound, stopping just long enough to retrieve Duo's body. -----Owari-----
