untitled Fic Heero woke in the middle of the night, suddenly aware that something wasn't right. "Duo?" he asked. The braided pilot lie there, quietly. Too quietly. "Duo?" Heero asked in alarm. "Duo, wake up! Please! For God's sake, please wake up." Heero's mind began to race. //You fool! You moron! You had the greatest treasure the world has to offer in your grasp and you let it slip through you fingers because you couldn't say three simple words. He's gone and he doesn't know you loved him!// Duo opened his eyes. "I'm awake, Heero. What's wrong? Usually I'm the one with nightmares." "No nightmare." Heero said. "Just thought I lost you for a moment." He held Duo close, placing a kiss on his forehead. "Let's go for a stroll." he suggested. "I have something to tell you." He lead Duo out of the room without looking back. Five minutes after the front door closed, noiselessly, downstairs, Quatre felt a sense of loss. With tears in his eyes, he went into Heero and Duo's room. Duo was lying, motionless, on his bed, looking far too pale. Heero was on the floor, slumped over the bed, a hand clutching Duo's shoulder, as if he'd been trying to wake him. Quatre shook his head, sadly and went to tell Trowa and Wufei the sad news. In the morning it would be determined that Duo's appendix had burst hours earlier, and that he and the others had mistaken the pain of peritonitis for injuries caused by OZ soldiers while he'd been taken prisoner. Heero's death would be chalked-up to unknown causes, though Quatre would insist to anyone who asked that Heero Yuy had died of a broken heart. For now, for the human-born angel the world called Quatre Raberba Winner, there as only grief, pain, and the arms of the boy he loved holding him as they both shed tears for the loss of their friends. "What is it you wanted to tell me?" Duo asked, looking up at Heero ask they strolled along the coastline. Heero looked into Duo's eyes and saw the stars reflected in them, spellbound, he touched his lips to Duo's. "I love you." he whispered. -----Owari-----
