XD It's not even funny in and of itself but it's a goldmine for snarky comments. My least favorite is "Never Too Late" due to the rampant Sueing and Stuing and applauding of obnoxious bullying. I always found "A Warm Place" to be boring. But I haven't had the time to read the MSTing yet! "Never Too Late" is REALLY horrible, and the fact that it takes a cool idea (Brad Van Darn is Jessie's uncle?! I'm seeing it, I'm loving it!) and RUINS IT FOR EVERYONE FOREVER doesn't help. The fact that most of the stupid story is told from Jessie's Stu father's urply diary just renders the whole thing unbelievable, and I seriously can't believe I read about Jessie reading about her parents having sex. Ewwwww god why didn't she stop ewww that's as bad as seeing them doing it uuugggggghhhh. Cori is a sick fuck. My favorite is probably The Cat's Outta the Bag, because it's almost cute. It's only a bit OOC, especially compared to her other fics, and it's short. Least favorite... I have to go with "The Thrill of Defeat" because it scarred my mind so badly when I was 14. THAT'S NOT WHAT I'D CALL R-RATED, YOU HAG. ...OH SHOOT I FORGOT ABOUT HER TIMELINE XDXDXDXD Dude, I have a timeline to keep track of my fanon in one of my fandoms too, but I don't share it with the world. Or fill it with irrelevant shit. Dude, it's like... I don't give a damn when James' great-great-grandfather was born. And all that breeding later in the timeline. And why the fuck does everyone and their mother have an Eevee, talk about a sure sign of Mary Sueism. AND WHAT'S WITH THOSE NAMES, OH GOD. The fic itself is boring, hence the need for the snark-colored glasses. XD Also I just remebered I kinda sorta liked the sweeter and more tranquil bits of the "A White Today" installment of the split-from-canon trilogy, there were some genuinely nice bits in there that would've been gold in the hands of a more competent storyteller. oh jesus the timeline D: D: D: That's just...a whole lot of fail right there, man, seriously. Why do we need to know when these millions of children are concieved, Cori? Why? -------------------- In Soviet Russia, badfic sporks YOU. Guilty as charged, frankly. And this is why I'm so bitter! QUOTE But I always have been and always will be of the opinion that Ash is a self-absorbed little bugger, and Rocketshipping fics were kind of thin on the ground at the time. Ash has been a lot less self-absorbed - quite the opposite, actually - ever since Misty left. I think he's too busy being a surrogate older brother to the new coordinator girls and growing up to bother with himself. But yeah, he was a lot like that in the first seasons. I've grown to be very amused by how much of a loser he used to be, but when one is thirteen and a Rocket fan, it IS hard to not hate his guts for it. Ah, yes, the memories, they be flooding. (Personally, because I've developed a crush on James this year and I'm a horny fucker, I'd kill to see James in an outfit like Jessie wore for the Gligarman episode. That was my big Rocketshipping phase. I'd watch every episode for signs that Jessie might be pregnant. Oh, deep down I knew I wouldn't find anything, but I kept looking anyway. > <; I also tried to write a Rocketshipping fic of my own, whose characterization was quite like Cori's (but I didn't get very far...I chickened out at the first kissing scene). I also wrote some pro-Gary and anti-Ash stuff. Therefore, I wouldn't have been able to believe my good fortune if I stumbled across Cori back then. Because, OMG, she thought the exact same things I did! She would have been my heroine. I don't think I would have even minded the sex scenes, since I read through all of the Earth's Children books at that same age. On a side note, just how many fics did Cori write? What's the deal with that? Could somebody fill me in? Yeah, the stories were kind of creepy-obsessive and sadistic, but you can find worse. Did she pitch a shit fit on a forum or something? Sorry it took a bit of time to answer this, but I think the reason for the Cori Falls hatred here on GAFF is multi-faceted. For one, Cori is or at least was, extremely popular among Pokemon fanfiction readers/writers, and you're not alone in having been a fan of hers when younger... there are a few other GAFFers who used to like her fics, me included. I admit that freely. But Cori Falls's fanfiction had this... really weird decline the more she wrote. The first few stories she wrote were almost kinda cute, easy to read, with no big spelling/grammar errors and a relatively IC and snarky Meowth. But gradually, the fics become more and more obsessive, the twerp-bashing harsher, the J&J-worship more marked, and the Mary Sueisms becoming more and more apparent... until the reader kinda like snaps out of a trance and asks in disbelief: "What the hell is this?! Jessie is a princess?! James does magic?! And what's with the constant 'you're beautiful both on the inside and the outside' mantra? And who could possibly think it was IC for Professor Oak to tell Ash to 'shut the hell up'?!" The reader might go back to the early stories and re-read them, but now their spell is thoroughly broken, and the reader suddenly realizes that they weren't really all that good to begin with... now they read like cheap Harlequin romances. And it's probably at this time that our reader utters the immortal words: "How could I ever have thought that this was good?!" And that accounts for some of the special place Cori Falls holds in a GAFFer's heart. When you used to be a fan of something and afterwards are forced to discover that it was garbage all along, you often get a little vicious with the criticisms, especially if you can't use the "I miss the older, better stuff" line of thought since the older, better stuff wasn't any good. Another reason is that Cori Falls is a good deal older than most of the fanbrats who write terrible and spiteful fanfictions... you can forgive a fourteen-year-old girl for being bratty, childish and petty in her writing, because teenagers aren't supposed to be mature. When a woman in her mid-to-late twenties reveals the same attitude, it's a lot less forgiveable. And finally, the foremost reason is Cori's attitude, pure and simple. You see it in her author's notes, and you saw it especially clearly in her infamous "rant" sections, where she lashed out with pure venom against anything and everything she didn't like -- usually it was Pokemon- or fanfic-related, or both. This is the woman who wrote such rants as "Respect all shippers, my ass!" called people who wrote darkfics or fics with tragic endings "sick and twisted" and "not true fans" because unless you only let good things happen to the characters you like or at least balance out the bad stuff with three times the amount of good things, you aren't a real fan of those characters and shouldn't be let within ten miles of them. She claimed to have had several emotional or nervous breakdowns over reading fanfics that killed off Team Rocket (nervous breakdowns over fanfics always struck me as taking it a bit too far, even the really horrible ones), raved and ranted against the official writers of the Pokemon anime for failing to portray Team Rocket the way she saw them, and was convinced that she understood the characters much better than their creators did. And of course, she's fanatically anti-slash to the point of quitting Fanfiction.net and removing all her fics from the site in protest when she discovered that there were slash-fics in the LotR section, claiming that she couldn't share a fanfic site with such terrible fics. (This was before the movies came out, mind, so the LotR section was a lot smaller in those days, purely based on the book, and not as dominated by fangirls who were seduced by how hot Orlando Bloom was.) Plain and simple, if something wasn't exactly how Cori thought it should be, then it was stupid, worthless, or just plain wrong, something which eventually extended to her fics... note how in a Cori Falls fic that nobody ever disagrees on anything unless they're mean and stupid and probably have poor personal hygiene as well, and anyone who thinks differently about a subject than Cori (and by extesion, all her favorite characters) are open to verbal abuse to the Nth degree. That answer your question? Tungsten Monk Nov 27 2008, 10:38 PM Post #29 GAFF Connoisseur Group: Members Posts: 674 Joined: 26-June 07 From: Chicago, IL, USA Member No.: 902 . . . it sure does, Roo. I had no idea things were that bad. I only vaguely remember the rants; I was there for a romance 'fic fix, not ranting. But I do recall that she invented the "Golden Ponyta Patootie Awards," which I remember thinking was hilarious. (I reiterate: I was thirteen.) However, I had no idea that she was any older than I was. Holy cheez. Three questions: one, does anybody have any archived copies of those rants? Two, why isn't there an ED page on this chick? Of special interest is the "To denounce the Evils of Bad Fanfiction" dual rant... (this page is in .txt format and the formatting ain't all that great, but then again, neither is the content! ) Here you can see Cori's spontaneous use of CAPITAL LETTERS when something UPSETS her, her -_____- overuse of O_o;;; weird-looking X_______x emoticons XD, and her f***ing tendency to use the f***ing cencored version of the word "f***ing." Among other things. Perhaps a few choice quotes of the highlights, in case you don't feel like reading the entire rant (wouldn't blame you). Cori showing of her brilliant witticims by launching a deadly verbal assault on people who write fics she doesn't like: QUOTE Honestly! Why the hell are people so mean to the characters that I like?! Why does everybody hate them so much?! Nobody who actually liked them could be capable of writing the shit that I've seen and heard horror-stories about! X_______x) The people who write these rape/death/torture/abuse/creepy pairing fics must be pulling their characterization and plot ideas out of their asses...because they sure are shitty! >D Cori demonstrating that she's not at all hypocritical just because she likes the idea of killing off characters she hates but anyone who tries to do the same to characters she likes are mean and stupid, plus some interesting notes on inspiration and how some writers who claim that they just "have" to write something are seriously disturbed in the head: QUOTE I don't really have a problem with death fics about characters that are canonically dead, like Miyamoto or Brock's mom, and I don't mind if truly evil villains who aren't an integral part of the show, like Butch & Cassidy or Jessiebelle, die in a fic (I even killed off Jessiebelle in one of my alternate reality fics, and I'm damn proud of it! Bwa, ha, ha!!! >D), but why kill a main character that's in every ep? What's the point of having a main character die from being in an accident, coming down with an incurable illness, committing suicide, being murdered, etc?! I'm sorry, but any fanfic where doing something like that to a main character is necessary to the plot isn't even a fic worth writing, let alone reading or enjoying! >P I once had the misfortune of reading a fic where Jessie and Pikachu die in a car crash (very graphically, I might add...and then the author wrote a sequal where Ash kills James to get revenge X________x), and every goddamned site where that thing is posted describes it as a beautiful story! The author herself even included a note that she "just had to write this story!" Uh...okay. Anybody who "just has to write" a fic like that is either being held at gunpoint or seriously f***ed in the head! (I'm gonna go with the latter, myself -- the odds of a crazed gunman breaking into your house and demanding that you write a fic where a bunch of Pokemon characters get killed aren't that great, after all. +P) And will somebody PLEASE explain to me what the f*** is supposed to be so goddamned beautiful about shit like that?! I sure as hell don't see what it is! (Note: I don't really object to death fics about Ash anymore. I'm at the point where I'm so disgusted by that twerp that I could care less what happens to him. He fits into the "truly evil villain who deserves to die" category these days. The only thing I really have a problem with in death fics about Ash is if J, J & M are the ones who kill him. I can't stand out of character stuff like that about TR, but Ash can go to hell for all I care.) Cori on why fans who write or enjoy slash/yaoi aren't real fans (why they are the reason she had to leave FF.net). QUOTE And it's not just cartoon fandoms that have sick fics either -- I've heard horror-stories about Lord of the Rings and Beatles yaoi on Fanfiction.net, too! Why the f***ing HELL are people writing yaoi about Lord of the Rings and the Beatles?! O___o If these losers were REAL fans of Tolkien or the Beatles, they'd treat them with reverence and write TASTEFUL stories! Yaoi about stuff like LOTR and the Beatles isn't just sick -- it's downright disrespectful...to the characters, the people, AND the fans who love and respect them! (That's one of the main reasons I left ff.net -- I couldn't stand the overload of sick fics there, and being affiliated with that damn place was making me feel dirty! >.<) I don't care if the authors of fics like these aren't making any money -- Tolkien's estate should be able to sue these assholes for doing such degrading things to his characters! And yaoi about real people like the Beatles isn't fanfic -- it's LIBEL, which IS a criminal offense! >( People who write sick fics about classic literature and real people need a serious ass-kicking! *kicks sick fic writers into the fires of Mt. Doom* Sorry, folks, but that's sacred stuff, and it deserves respect! I think that real-person fics were against the FF.net rules even back then, so the Beatles stuff shouldn't even have been there in the first place. And while I do think that ol' J. R. R. probably would have disapproved of all the slash-fics about his characters, I'm fairly certain that he wouldn't have called the writers "assholes" and told them they needed a serious ass-kicking. He probably wouldn't have used the weird-looking emoticons either. I think that's enough quotage for now, don't you? As for what Cori Falls is doing now... I have no idea. She was into Yu-Gi-Oh fanfics for some time, where she wrote stories about Rex Raptor/Dinosaur Ryuzaki and gave him the exact same style of treatment as she did with Jessie and James, plus give him a Mary Sueish girlfriend named Pagan (no joke, but this was the same woman who thought that "Arwen" was a great name for the Mary Sueish girlfriend of Gary Oak). What was interesting about these stories was that she couldn't quite decide who her hate object was to be for the fandom... she started out loathing Weevil Underwood/Insector Haga, but after a while started kinda liking him, and her hatred for Duke Devlin was so great that she gave him the creative nickname "Puke" and declared that in her fics, which were a lot more thought-out and true to the spirit of these characters than the show itself was, there was no way Puke would become friends with Yugi and the gang -- but she seemed to kinda let up on him after a while as well, giving him small redeeming moments. So Cori's Yu-Gi-Oh stories had this curious tendency to introduce characters who were pure scum and given the traditional Cori verbal abuse, only to then turn around and be "not so bad after all," becoming friends with the "heroes" who had given them insulting nicknames, ranted about how much they sucked and played very mean-spirited pranks on them but never apologized because they were obviously in the right anyway. But Cori wouldn't be Cori if she didn't have someone to loathe so the characters could point out how much they sucked, so she imported her favorite hate-object from Pokemon, namely Tracey Sketchit... that is, Cori's version of Tracey Sketchit, which is nothing like the one on the show. She gave him the name "Kenji Suketchii" (giving rex Raptor and the gang the opportunity to dub him "Suck-ecchi" and tried to pass him off as an original character, but anyone who had ever glanced at a Cori-fic before could see that he was meant to be Tracey, who in Cori's mind is a morbidly fat, disgustingly perverted, complete and utter loser who deserves nothing but hatred and ridicule. After leaving Yu-Gi-Oh fandom, which she seems to have done, I'm not sure what she's up to. Maybe she lost interest in fanfiction altogether, or maybe she's gone on to another fandom that we don't know about yet, under another pen name? Who knows? She gave him the name "Kenji Suketchii" (giving rex Raptor and the gang the opportunity to dub him "Suck-ecchi" and tried to pass him off as an original character, but anyone who had ever glanced at a Cori-fic before could see that he was meant to be Tracey, who in Cori's mind is a morbidly fat, disgustingly perverted, complete and utter loser who deserves nothing but hatred and ridicule. Wait, what? Which story was this? I never actually read ALL her YGO fics so I must've missed something. -------------------- In Soviet Russia, badfic sporks YOU. Kenji was completely without redeemable traits, though, so he could be hated and ridiculed freely. His largest role was probably in the "Robin Hood" story, where the gang for reasons I've completely forgotten decided to put on an amateur play based on Robin Hood (a not-particularly-successful mix of the Disney animated version and the "Men in Tights" version, with some "Prince of Thieves" thrown into the mix) where he played the Sheriff of Nottingham -- basically he was given the role so the others could bash him even more and because he was apparently too stupid to realize that the Sheriff was supposed to be the bad guy. Yeah, the heroes who hated his guts still let him in on a theatrical production which meant that they more or less had to see him and work with him consistantly over a longer time, during rehersals and tryouts and every other pre-prodution thing, simply so they could humiliate and talk trash about him on-stage. Cori's main heroes are nothing if not vicious. How they even managed to is beyond me, because there's no consistency to the part -- sometimes it seems like Kenji has no clue what's going on, other times he follows the script perfectly (and of course he gets tons of "uuugh"s and "how disgusting"s for playing the role that they wrote for him), and at times everybody seems to forget that thus is simply a play and treats it as real life -- whatever makes Kenji look the worst at the moment. He ends up being dragged off-stage by some obnixious fat, ugly girl whose name escapes me right now, but who is probably another of Cori's OCs and specifically created to look bad and make Kenji look bad. In the play, she plays "Latrine" (you know, the ugly witch from "Men in Tights" who had the hots for the Sheriff), and she has of course been specifically cast in this role by Cori's heroes to make Kenji's life and performance miserable -- because Kenji doesn't seem to be aware that the play ends with Latrine getting the Sheriff, and "Latrine" (and everyone else, for that matter) conveniently forget that it's just a play and not real. Sometimes I really wonder about Cori Falls. I can understand why she hates Ash and likes Gary. Hell, even the hating-yaoi part makes at least some sense. But why does she hate Tracey so much? For that matter, why does pretty much EVERYONE seem to hate him? He's so wonderfully adorkable that it was impossible for me not to like him. I always preferred him over Brock, since I never liked how Brock only seemed to care about pretty women. Now I know that Brock's character is slightly more complex than that, but back when I was eleven-ish it didn't help my self-esteem issues one bit. Okay, enough mememe. But I'm still wondering just what is so offensive about poor Tracey. Sometimes I really wonder about Cori Falls. Oh, I remember the fairy tale sendups, or at least the fanart. Never read the fics, though. ...wow. That whole setup reminds me of elementary school kids playing House or Army or Fort or other kiddie roleplaying games, and the kid they hate the most gets to be the big loser everyone dumps on. Either Cori's not as old as she claims to be or she WAS the big loser who got stuck with the shitty role. This only furthers the theory that she's using these fics to work through her childhood traumas. And jeez, what's she got against the overweight? Did a fat person insult her mother and sit on her head or something? This post has been edited by Sara Jaye: Nov 29 2008, 07:56 PM -------------------- In Soviet Russia, badfic sporks YOU. He's also a bit of a perv and likes to draw women, but I don't see how that makes him worse than Brock. Tracey's not fat at all, he just wears a really big T-shirt. When he's in swimming trunks, he's just like Brock. And he drew women like... I dunno, twice? And he was a complete dork about it too. He's 15 and kind of a giant geek, there's nothing pervy about it. Especially when compared to Brock who spends 50% of his time flirting with older women. Cori's hatred for Tracey saddens me more than any other fan's hatred for him. People hate Tracey because he replaced Brock and didn't have much of a personality at the time (he grew one in the Hoso specials, thankfully). I'm convinced she hates Tracey because of his stupid old Scyther and what he did to Jessie and James' hair in that one episode. Didn't she describe it as "traumatic" or something? She describes so many things as "traumatic" and I dunno anymore. Either way, I'm sure that's where it came from. And in her hatred for him, she turned him into something he clearly isn't... I think that because he's essentially a blank slate, she could turn him into a stand-in for someone from who hurt her in the past...? Just a theory. -------------------- QUOTE(Lysander, on the subject of pumpkin pie @ Dec 14 2007, 09:18 PM) It means that, when you first get a pumpkin pie, you'll be very happy with it. Digimon: Butterfly Roo Dec 1 2008, 07:37 AM Post #38 GAFF Reader Group: Members Posts: 145 Joined: 21-June 07 From: Never-Neverland Member No.: 46 Yep, Cori more or less directly stated in her author's notes/rants that it was the Scyther episode and the "mohawk haircuts" that made her hate Tracey. That, and he apparently at some point committed the unforgiveable sin of calling Team Rocket "weird." I dunno, I don't think I ever saw that episode, but apparently it was deeply traumatizing. Thing is, Cori does have this habit of taking minor things that probably don't mean anything, and exaggerate them until she's convinced they are a major part of the character, probably by making some pretty far-fetched logical leaps. She sees that Tracey is not stick-thin (or at least that he wears an oversized tee-shirt that makes him look not-stick-thin), so obviously he's fat, and that probably means he's a glutton, and all gluttons are slobs, and slobs don't shower as often as they should, so logically Tracey is a fat slob who never showers. That makes sense, right? Furthermore, it's established at least twice that Tracey was drawing a pretty girl when he claimed he was drawing a Pokemon, so that must mean that he secretly perves on girls, and if he does that then he obviously draws dirty nude pictures of them for himself to ogle, and he pretty much just looks at girls as sex objects and not people at all, so from that, you have to draw the conclusion that he's a good-for-nothing, vile, sexist pig. Since it's now established that he's good-for-nothing, then he obviously can't be a good Pokemon researcher, or in any way be an asset to Professor Oak in his lab, because that would mean he was good for something, which directly contradicts what we had just deduced. So the conclusion has to be that Tracey is a complete waste of space, who never does the work he's supposed to, goofs off and watches porn instead of tidying up the lab or taking care of the Pokemon, and the only reason why Professor Oak hasn't thrown him out yet is because he's just too nice. So there. I have no idea if that's actually how the thought process went, but it wouldn't seem too far-fetched, would it? Snake Bandage Dec 1 2008, 07:46 AM Post #39 GAFF Expert Group: Members Posts: 394 Joined: 23-June 07 Member No.: 720 That doesn't make any sense. But I'm convinced that's how Cori actually thinks. Roo, you did it again. o_O; Tracey was lucky compared to Ash, though. Being a fatass slob is better than becoming completely retarded and delusional and, instead of getting help for it, getting ridiculed and having people say you deserve it. *shakes head* Poor Ash. -------------------- QUOTE(Lysander, on the subject of pumpkin pie @ Dec 14 2007, 09:18 PM) It means that, when you first get a pumpkin pie, you'll be very happy with it.
